Willow is our head of Burlesque and the co-creator of Bottoms Up!

An acting graduate of AC Arts (Adelaide 2001) Willow J has been based in Melbourne for the last ten years. She has been producing and performing burlesque since 2003, firstly with the notorious neo-burlesque troupe Voodoo Trash Dolls (2003 – 2009) receiving award for best Victorian burlesque troupe 2006; and most recently as a solo artist (2009 – present).

Willow is trained in many different dance and movement forms including Bouffon with acclaimed master Philippe Gaulier, her original and provocative self-devised pieces draw from cross-disciplined art forms including acting, tango, bouffant, butoh, and performance art. Willow has performed her solo burlesque/performance art/cabaret acts in over 200 shows nationwide and internationally.

As a director, producer, burlesque solo artist, choreographer and award-winning actor Willow’s work extends to film, TV, theatre, physical theatre, performance art, and experimental theatre and film with credits including: Kylie Divine (Award for Best Actress South Australian ZOOM Short Film Festival, and the Crowd Pleasers Award Triple J Flickerfest),  Measure for Measure (CPA), All of Which Are American Dreams (Theatreworks),  The Stitch (Carlton Courthouse), Elmo (LA Mama), Empire (Melbourne Fringe, Adelaide Fringe),  Parallels (Feature film), Sensing Murder (TV series),  Prostitute – Who Is She (Fitzroy Reading Room), Last Man Standing (TV Series),  Dressed to Kill (ABC Gallery – Voodoo Trash Dolls), Chaz Royales Burlesque Follies (Thornbury Theatre,), Bettie & Page – Club Spiegel (Spiegeltent – Melbourne), London Burlesque Festival (Madam Jo Jo’s),  La Nuit de l’opera au Cirque (Palladium The Crown Casino), Grotesque Burlesque (Melbourne Fringe Festival), Adelaide Feast Festival (The Wheatsheaf) Australian Burlesque Festival (Blue Diamond and Royal Melbourne), Gorelsque (Red Bennies), Melbourne Fringe 2012 award winning Butoh Cabaret show Das SHOKU Shake! As the co-founder of Australia’s most fierce school of burlesque and pole dancing – Bottoms Up! – Willow found her passion for teaching in 2008. Having taught burlesque in Melbourne, Queensland and Adelaide, Willow has a great love for passing on knowledge and skills and enjoys seeing students flourish into confident and daring burlesque dancers!
