Head of Ballet and Manager of Bottoms Up! Gisborne
Lesley comes to Bottom’s Up! with 39 years dance experience. She began classical ballet at the age of 3 in her native Scotland and at 7 won a scholarship with the Scottish Ballet School in Glasgow.
After immigrating to Australia when she was 9, Lesley went into full time training. She studied classical ballet, pas de deux, point, repertoire, contemporary, jazz and tap.
At 21 Lesley accepted a contract that saw her tour across Asia. Next was a move to Singapore, after successfully auditioning and being accepted into the Teaching Certificate program at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance (RAD). In between study and training, Lesley continued to perform and also worked as a model, appearing on catwalks, magazines and television.
After 3 years she was awarded her registered teacher status and went on to teach at The Palais Dance Studio, The Australian International School and The Hollandse Club.
As well as teaching and choreographing for concerts, Lesley worked privately with students on their technique to ensure a 100% success rate on examinations. She has a very strong philosophy that good technique builds great dancers.
After moving back to Scotland, she taught for The Edinburgh Dance Academy out of many different studios.
After twelve years abroad, she returned to Australia, had a son and began teaching ballet in Melbourne where she met new friends and heard about pole dancing. As soon as she walked into Bottoms Up!, founders Jacquie and Willow J saw her flexibility, lines and extensions and the rest is now history.
Lesley was amazed by the hardcore strength and beauty of the pole and the performance elements of burlesque but it was the sense of freedom and expression and the unique style that Bottoms Up! had created, that the dancer within was really attracted to.
With a 20 year RAD teaching background, she was a perfect addition to the Bottom’s Up teaching team and has been trained by Jacquie and Willow in the pole and burlesque syllabus for the last 7 years.
Lesley teaches Pole Dance, Ballet (RAD RTS), Stretch & Flex and works privately with burlesque and pole students. She is also an accredited Fly Gym instructor. She is the manager of the Bottom’s Up! Gisborne studio and performs with Bottom’s Up! any chance she can get.
She is thrilled to be able to offer the unique style of Bottom’s Up! Pole and Burlesque to the women (and any interested men) of the Macedon Ranges.
